Out law Run

Wild roses cover old brick wall
one hundred years and more
each time we make the jump
blood red carpet of thorns
reach up.

turn back
tip my hat to those wild roses
blood roses.

Ride on the wild side
how wide is that gully
how strong is your nerve
Exhilaration.

straight up
straight down
come on come on
lay your money down.

saddle against saddle
trailer against trailer
that truck paid for?

Madonna
Elly Mae call out my name
some just won't bet anymore
and some don't play,
Cowgirl up, tip my hat
be on my way.

Author notes

coloring in my world, after the rains an outlaw run this week end. The younger they are the harder they fall. The older ones are getting wiser. No fear best to meet the angels with. God understands.. do you?

I like the way this is written almost like a stream of thought, especially the line "that truck paid for?" interjected.
Riding is only a memory for me and I envy you girls that still have horses and live the life.

    In our world...

...the Cowgirl is a fast disappearing flame. She used to be hotter then a pistols discharge and now there are so few...embers are slowing fading. I'm glad you joined the group. I liked the old and new references in your poem.

I just love a good challenge, you can keep your saddle darlin', fits that sweet ass of yours better 'en mine anyhow. Will my 4 door Dodge dually with a 6 speed Cummings suffice?  Gonna make a good tow vehicle for that ratty old horse trailer of yours when y'all lose.
Nice write Rheea, as usual I'm not a very deep person so I don't try to read too far down into a piece but from where I sit this is nice work, we learn not to mess with the "bull" or the cow either as in this case.

I see you've had a birthday or two since I last heard from you.
    Nice notes too!

A beautifuly way to see life, and it isn't really "life" unless you aren't afraid to try that new horse or smell the next flower.

  • Quite a metaphor for life as I see it.  A hard life, fast life and dangerous at times. Challenges to face and race. Obstacles to overcome and the will to stand fast against the battles. Betting your life, your will, your love against those of others. Sadness, joy, the exhileration and adrenaline rush when things heat up.

This brings so much to mind I can't write it all.  Or maybe, just maybe, I'm reading between the lines too much.  I can see it though......can you?

    WOW!!!

I really enjoyed this poem! This is the type of poem I could read over and over. Dig the photo of your horse. Nice lookin' animal. For sure.

  • Great imagery and a gutsy and rambunctious write. Just the mere mention of Ellie Mae got me dreaming of frayed Daisy Dukes and polka-dotted halter tops, not to mentiion chimpanzees. Which is to say, your poem is very inspiring and thought-provoking.

Beautiful write, but I think you should get rid of those wild roses. Put some weed killer on them.

    Lovely poem

Angel is by your side beautiful one, do not worry. Ride hard and long, and do it as only you can. My thoughts and my money are with you.

You've had a hard life, haven't you baby? Looking at your poem another way, it seems to be a metaphor for the struggles of life in general. Keep your friend under you when you are jumping those rose covered walls, we wouldn't want to scratch the wrong thing now, would we?

    All my love,
    Brazos
