Whisper gentle dreamer
Of your midnight visions
Infused with the haunting
Of past's apparitions.
Divulge what plagues your night
As breaths grow shallower,
Those heavy eyelids close,
And your face gains pallor
With scarring memories
That refuse to be left
Behind or forgotten.
And the terror comes next.
Tossing your head in fright,
Incoherent mutters
Fill the chilled night air and
Seep between the shutters.
Unfortunately, there
Is no reprieve until
Your dreams have had their fun
And brilliant sunlight spills.
Shutter, gentle dreamer
At the grim prospect of
Another night of horrors
When with night, eyelids tug.
