Old Before My Time

I am far to young
to feel this old;
but broken dreams break you,
wear you down,
turn you upside down and
turn you out.
Oh, the things I was going to do;
The beauty, the creation, the design,
But where do you go
when your dream
has been stolen from your hands and heart
by cackling demons in this world?
You can try to catch up,
you can try to run them down,
you can even pick up the pieces -
if there are enough left.
But shattered glass
doesn't hold glue when
pieces are missing and
the glass was so beautiful and precious.
Broken, tired, disallusioned;
where do I go from here?
I am lost, I am wandering
in a world far older than I;
a world now far too young for me.

    Poet

    Often in our depths of despair a light shines through. And a youthful exuberance can fill our hearts. In your words i still sense some hope and the gods know that one must love themselves to gain entrance into paradise. Even if the paradise resides in ones mind. Excellent write.

      Old Before My Time

      I always love your comments. I like your honesty, even if it's pointing out errors; that's how we learn. And boy, some of my toughest life lessons have been learned here, dissected through the eyes of others. That is really a gift. Thank you for reading and commenting - particularly since my absence was lengthy.
      Blessed Be,

      Thank you so much! This isn't one of mybest, but I rather like it, too because I was able to get A LOT of anger off of my shoulders. Thank you again.

    Your writing is very different to mine and yet I like its powerful feeling using simple language and real emotion. Very well done in my opinion. Sheila

      What a comliment! Thank you for spending so much time reding and & complimenting! I love it when my poetry resonates with someone who writes differently. I don't think I could write any other way. I can rhyme, but will only go through with it if it's not forced - if it just comes to me. I write using real experiences and they started off being therapy and I guess they just sort of e volved from there. I don't know how to be flowery or abstract, and suspect people would have little to day to me if I tried.
      Your words are alwayslovely & I thand you agin,

    Another powerful write FaeRae. I just read and comment on a similar piece regarding lost dreams. This is deep and touching; a wonderful piece of writing with a powerhouse-tale for those who listen and with-hold judgment. Very remarkable indeed; lots of great imagery here.

    A good description of how we feel when it all falls apart, but life has not finished with us yet(or ever) . Remember this about people, -
    Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind
    Deep inside we are all ageless because we will all live forever, long after these bodies of ours are a forgotten memory

      Thank you for reading. I will try and focus on your comments. Some days are better than others. Today I have to push myself, but I will because it makes me feel stronger.
      Thank-you,
      Rae

  • This is sort of like holding up a mirror and taking a look. What is one to do when everything that you have worked your entire life is taken from you by powers beyond your ability to control. You lose your job, your company, your home...still we continue the struggle. It is far better than sinking down and accepting defeat.
    Perhaps rather than attempting to repair the glass that was, it is time to forge the glass anew.

      Perhaps you are right. I've been spinning my wheels trying to put the pieces back together when maybe I should start to find a new dream . . . there has to be one more left in me that I can do with this broken body. I guess acceptance would be the first place to start. I'm sorry to hear that we have such similar tales and we are both too young to have lost to much. But you are strong- I hear it in your words. I know I am, I do. Few could keep up a pain-filled fight for 6 years and not go down with the ship, so I will credit myself with that. Trying. I do try, and I guess that's what matters.

      Take Care,
      Rachele

      • I undersstand some of what you feel, I am in a re-creation phase myself. I have decided that I will just be me from now on. If anyone doesn't like me, their loss. I don't have the energy to play the game by anyone's rules but mine own. Never give up, you cannot be defeated unless you give up.
        You can kill me, but you will not defeat me!
