painted wraith-forms
filtering dimly through a trickster haze, as if to taunt
eyes already pulled shut by their own weight
a dancing pack of ghastful ghostlings and vengeful shadows
who, having torn themselves loose from that which cast them,
now exercise their vengeance upon more material life
by dangling a morsel of the future, or an answer, some indefinable tidbit of
MEANING
against the backs of closed eyelids; a cruel mirage of mystic insight.
or is their form blurred by mere cataracts of eye? or mind? or heart?

please explain to me what this is about.
maybe i am just tired or stupid, but it would help to know exactly what you are saying in this. -

Lying in bed at night, as I'm trying to go to sleep, I always see images against the backs of my eyelids. Usually it's just fuzzy colors, but often enough, actual little 'scenes' like an image of trees and dusty rocks or something will appear. I've always wondered what that's about. It happens -before- I fall asleep so it has nothing to do with dreams.

Some good imagery in this piece. A whole range of emotions. Good luck inthe contest.

a good poem, the eye will see all sorts of things, dust and dreams mingle in visions, especially if sleep is pulling its strings and you are on the end.
