The inward eye

Life,
the spiral of conscious
and unconscious thoughts.

I refuse to exist
in cliques and cults,
those back slapping clubs
where laurels are seldom earned,
and hypocrisy rings its discordant bell.

Fairness does not always bring fame,
but it brings solace,
and I can look you straight in the eye.

Powerful sense of self in this write. Of only needing to live up to one's own expectations! I'm assuming this is for the title.. wonderful write!

  • Great piece. I really enjoyed this.

    OH HOW TRUE THIS IS!!!

Why just the other day I was thinking of how most people here where I live must always be with othes, usually many others like a group. I have always been just the opposite, a loner so to speak. And as I was thinking about this I knew I could die tomorrow and not be afraid to face the lord without fear. 's

Great message about being true to one's ideals. I like this and I agree wholeheartedly that "fairness does not always bring fame, but it brings solace" Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if everyone acted in this manner?
Nice use of imagery. Well done.

Extremely poignant final stanza. I especially like the second and third line of stanza two, and their ending words cults/clubs, almsost want to rhyme. great work and good luck. Thanks for sharing.

I don't know if you meant it that way, but I read this as a brilliant put-down of the hypocrisy and self-congratulatory nature of much of the activity on this site (and poetry forums in general).

    Good stuff,
    Bill
