have to be forever?
From the backseat in a daze
he had caught me clever
Why does God come take us,
before Jesus comes and we are free?
Breathe caught tight in my throat
I turned the rearview mirror,
so his face I could clearly see
Not exactly sure what was the answer
I wiped my eyes and tried to think
Time and time again, I myself
had tried to fit together that certain link
Honey, we can't exactly stay
here on this earth forever
We all have our time
to go back home to heaven
Staring out the window
sadness in his eyes was evident to see
At six years old, what types of questions
are those of these to be?
His troubled mind is learning life
and acceptance of it all can be a fight
Even though tough questions arise
he seems to know in his heart, what's right
As I envied his curious mind
he gave me a smirk
as if to say he were fine
Turning the car into the drive
I reassured my boy
we were very much alive
Author notes
"Through the eyes of a child."
My 6 1/2 year old son has gone to the same Christian Academy since he was an infant, starting only in the daycare - and has attented classes there since he were 3 years old. God is very much involved in his life, and he praises the lord every day. It makes me very proud to see him take such joy and self pride in his values and beliefs. Which is why I get many questions daily about life and death in general. I personally had never gone to church or had much of a religeous background myself, which is the main reason I decided I wanted him to have that opportunity until he could tell me he didn't want it anymore. It has made our lives more peaceful, understanding and blessed to have God in them. Amen!

I'm not na believer in god but I think this was a very good poem. My little brother asks me questions like this. And I tell him that I don't know and he will figure it out one day. I wish I could have thought of soemthing like that to say when my little brother asked me.

a good poem, ah when we are kids we haveto ask or we will never learn anything, we ask the simplest of questions that have difficult answers

-
A fine, realistic write.
Thank you for entering my contest. -
This is a great write. You never know what a child will ask next and they look to you for the answers. I could see you adjusting the mirror and looking at his face. How great it would be if we could ask those questions, without reservations.

I know that one day soon I'll be asked the same sort of questions.... I really like the rhyme and the way you described your reactions to your son's questions. My favorite stanza is "Staring out the window / sadness in his eyes was evident to see / At six years old, what types of questions / are those of these to be?" It is amazing to wonder into what kind of person our child will develop, and how he can ask such deep questions at such a young age. Good luck with the answers! (I know I'll be working on mine for a really long time.)

tough questions take us by surprise
Its in moments like these that we discover where our truths lie. Children are miners of truth and will discover precious nuggets that enrich their lives. May your honesty give him many more gold nugget moments.

Precious Inquiries
Such a hard question to answer! I so enjoyed reading this lovely little rhyme! It brought back a vivid memory!
You wrote it so well and even the adjusting the mirror, I could see in my mind as I read through the poem.
Very profound question he asked huh? I liked how it came from the mouth of a babe. Great job writing this one! And....great message!
Bravo!

Thank you so much for not only reading but also telling me what you enjoyed about it. Every day seems to be a new adventure as far as his questions go, and I thought it were time I began to write all of this down somehow! I am glad you enjoyed it, and it is... a very hard question indeed. Take care!

This is so very touching and kids ask the most innocent questions. I can just picture you and Kodi having this conversation. You did a wonderful job putting your conversation into a poem. I miss you guys so much and love you! Keep up the great writing sis.

It's interesting to see what questions young children consider. Through this i see both minds, his childlike mind, and also how adults think to speak to children about such things.
Well written.
