absolution.

The world is a heap of fumbled mistakes

by men seeking power with hands of greed;

governments full with parasites and fakes,

spilling such nonsense to meet their own needs.

And they spout improvements of worldly gains

of wars and toys and fights of fair means,

while populations pose to play with pain

and power sits perfect - itself redeemed.

People are restless and talk "solutions",

but what of the tears and what of the cost

would mankind expect from revolution

when Earth can't be won and we've already lost?

We weep about worth and things we can see,

for media moments that shape our youth

and we bleed for beliefs...to bleed them free,

yet ignore all sense...all notions of truth.

Our world is ending just as was once planned

and global warming is taking the blame,

while sun scorches all and sea swallows land

and Earth becomes "memory" - a simple name.

We prepare for future - one we won't know,

whilst hysteria holds itself intact;

we eat our own words, watch as deceit grows

and scowl down on those who dare to raise fact.

Sheep of circumstance - it's what we've become--

a society tainted by own lies;

we've damaged, depleted...mankind is done,

as fault finds feigned glories within death's cries.

    I hear ya sister. Damn the man! The current of the words is so much a place I like to swim in but its choppy, makes me shake and seek safer harbor. I guess that's good yeah?

    cool,

    this is the only one so far that rhymed, brownie points

  • Love this.

  • The last stanza leaves the reader feeling the same sorrow and hopeless outlook you convey so well. It's beautiful.

    Thank you for another fantastic read. Once again, you are so talented.

    I'm only sorry I never got the chance to read more of your work. I feel as though I've really missed out on something spectacular up until now.

  • your poetry is very to the point, your opinion laid bare, a far cry from the tales of mystic bells and fairys your writing has progressed onto the next level, be the politics aside i loved your truthful words

    A outstanding write, deep and full of the truth which meets our fears... mankind is his worst own enemy this is proven by the civilations that lived before us, evolution can not be stopped... so sad but so true

    Wise words but no call to get up and do something about it.
    This reads like the climax to civilisation which I am afraid to say I do not see coming soon and when it does it will go out with a whimper rather than a bang unless we(the caring normal folk, the meek and mild) get off our backsides and revolt against the system that is draining not only our will to live but the life and soul of the planet on which we stand.
    Yes there are corruptions by greedy politicions and business men.
    Yes we have destroyed most of the finite resources needed to keep the planet going but the one thing they can't take away is our freedom to think and act in unison to put an end to the imbalance.
    Stand up and fight for what you think right.

      If plain and simple truth isn't enough to make a man stand up and be counted, then no amount of cajoling will make him stand. There are consequences for every action - that is a fact...and those who choose to sit and keep their own counsel will surely know the consequences of their actions. We can shout truths from the greatest heights and yet, we can force no one to listen. I've written on this topic many, many times...and still no one listens, yet still I write and stand by my beliefs.

      I care not for trophies, I have many; I care not for recognition from fellow APers, I have enough confidence in my own abilities without seeking assurance from others. My reason for entering your contest is a simple one - you have given me a stage to stand on and so I speak and am heard.

      Evolution can't be stopped, yet our standard of life can be improved upon, as can the lives of others globally - we're the lucky ones, we still have the freedom of choice, whether we choose to implement it for the good of others or ourselves.

      Thanks for the "debate", I quite enjoyed the view from atop my soapbox

  • wise words. Tasteful and aggressive and, sadly true. They will try to fix it but it's gone on too long, hope for a miracle is what I do hope is all I can rely on it seems. Fantastic Write.
