He floated like a butterfly -
Stung like a bee
A mighty man of valour,
as all men ought to be
He stood upon his principles
A true patriot was he
When ordered to go to Vietnam,
he simply said "NOT ME"
"I have no quarrel with Vietcong"
He told the powers that be,
I will not fight anyone
thats done no harm to me !!
The World would be a better place,
If all men/woman thought free,
instead of being as Lemmings
on a patriotic spree
Ali !! Ali !! Ali !!
Stung like a bee
A mighty man of valour,
as all men ought to be
He stood upon his principles
A true patriot was he
When ordered to go to Vietnam,
he simply said "NOT ME"
"I have no quarrel with Vietcong"
He told the powers that be,

thats done no harm to me !!
The World would be a better place,
If all men/woman thought free,
instead of being as Lemmings
on a patriotic spree
Ali !! Ali !! Ali !!

Very nice! this may be my favorite of your for its form and entire cohesiveness.
i liked the last stanza best since it calls out to the reader to make a societal point. and what a fine point might i add!
the ali's end it wonderfully!!

Dobar Dan, Yup, we've been at this fighting thing a long, long time. I just happen to believe the veil is being lifted a little and things will get better, not perfect, but better. It's a pretty wierd and farout belief, I have to admit. I guess I'm probably just as crazy as those who believe that Armageddon is around the corner.
pearlstp is right, all must learn to be the Change we seek. I just believe this new light coming upon us will help us do just that.
God Bless All.

This is a very good write. I'm staying out of the war crap. Tired of hearing about it. Tired of seeing it. Tired of thinking or having nightmares about it. My guys came back from Iraq today. I'm happy. Back to your write...This is very good. You have amazing talent Joe, and I love you for that. You are a man with thoughts and you don't care what others think. You speak your mind and you did that well here...Thank you for sharing it with me...

As a boxer he was the best.
But he was used as a political pawn, How are all men to be free, if those most able are not prepared to fight for that freedom? Thats the political bit out of the way.
Your poem is a nice gentle wander through those long ago times, when a young man, used arrogant entertainment to go out practice his great pugilist talents, Have you ever read the report of the Henry Cooper fight makes interesting reading, busted clove, I dont think so.
Liked your poem, took me down memory lane. thank you.

Thanks for the comments/applasuse/compliment -
The youmg men and women sent to Vietnam were the political pawns - - Read my poem "The Vietnam War" - Thanks for saying my poem was nice - btw - 60,000 young men and women came to my Canada during the Useless war there - so thats 58,000 service people (pawns) lost in battle and 60,000 that came here is a biggggg loss for naught. And we should welcome anyone that does not want to fight in Iraq with open arms - but our government is in the U.S.A. pockets - If we were ademocratic country we would not be sending them back - sad - Bless God - Joe

This is really good. You've written about one of my favorite people. I like how you rhymed as well as he did. You are so right when you say the world would be much better if all felt and acted like him. What I can't stand is people who risk their whole individuality trying to politically correct. What's wrong with being yourself? This is a very good poem and, I enjoyed reading it.

Hi Pam
I just knew you would like it - we think so much alike - he was a man among men - people scold me about this poem - they say he was a Muslim - or he was a coward - even my daughter said - :"ask his wives" lol lol lol - but it is not unlike Bill Clinton - he may have been a Becker - lol - but he was a grear president ehhh - thanks for the applause and comment and compliment - hugs Joe -
