Every twenty eight days I shed my skin.
The first time I did it it was painful.
It really felt like losing something. But now
it’s easy. Just a shrug and a wriggle –
on a bad day sometimes a knife
slid up through the ankles –
and it falls to the floor in a heap.
It’s a good party trick.
People come over the day before
and we make a night of it.
They’re there to hold my hand and murmur
when I see my new face in the mirror
in the morning and start whimpering.

if you read my work , you will see that shedding skin is my forte' ... something i do ... and this piece caught my attention, and my affections, and i love in the first part how you says it felt like losing something at first but now it is easy ... because in a way i feel the same ... though different ...
great piece!!!
