A Friend In Need

A FRIEND IN NEED
As you journey through this life, you meet people without end.
Just think from deep within yourself, how many you call friend.
Some may slap you on the back; they will even call you mate.
Though when the going toughens up; mateship's not so great.
Others are fair-weather friends; they cling on for the ride.
You find when you need them most; they’re never by your side.

True friends are scarce, so hard to find, like water in the sand.
Those you make throughout this life may be counted on one hand.
You need not write them letters; they do not expect a gift.
For when you walk in unannounced, like yours: their spirits lift.
Ensure they know their value, why you think of them as friend.
Then no matter what may come to pass, friendship will not rend.
