He was just a little parakeet
So sweet and so small.
He'd chirp and he'd sing
Keeping the miners enthralled.
Each day they would take him
deep down in their caves
As they worked in the grime
He'd be alone in his cage.
Totally unaware
of why he was there.
When a strange sound was heard
A furtive glance could be seen
from the faces of miners
At their bird near the seam.
Their concern for his safety
Filled his heart with glee
It never occurred to him
That he wasn't free
This was his life
Filled with love and care
So he did what he could
to keep their hearts from despair
One day while they worked
He blinked and he gasped
Unable to breath in
some horrible gas.
He tried to hang on
And called out to his friends
"There's something the matter!"
He heard, "Our parakeets dead!"
It was the last thing he heard
as God took him away
At the cost of its life
He saved ten miners that day.

this is very original
parakeets are more than birdseed on the ground to clean up under the cage and annoying when they chirp in the morning what a special task for this bird and everyone writes about dogs and cats
this is great -
This is so true.
Parakeets do indeed sound off when they detect gas as do canaries. I had several parakeets growing up and after my married life. They never failed to delight us.

Oh this is so awesome
I often wondered if they had something like a parakeet with them would it make a difference in the lives saved . This is graded A+ indeed
