To be perfectly honest...

Mmmmm...
the things you say to me
when you're so close,
nearly at my lips,
melt right through me,
smooth
and delicious

Oh, and when you finally touch me
keeping true
to every promised anticipation,
overwhelming sweetness soothes me
inside and out

You comfort me if I'm anxious
and tempt me with scintillating games
when I'm bored--
always sure to satiate
in the end.

I can't deny any of that.

But you have to understand--
sometimes too much of a good thing
can arouse an uneasy feeling in me
--even regret--

And though I would never want my words to deny you
nor the weighty truth to push you away,
I respect you enough to be honest. . .

I have another love--
and for me,
you will always take second place

... to chocolate.

Wonderful piece of writing, just love the way you use your creative expression.
Love the images, splendidly done indeed.
Be blessed in all you do.

  • You are a girl after my own heart. It's a good thing that chocolate is legal for I might be forced to the dark side to secure it on the black market if necessary. I am not a big dessert eater, but I am unable to resist the call of a warm brownie (particularly with walnuts and chocolate chips).

I loved how this poem leads us in one direction and then inserts a sweet twist at the end. Clever and sensual...a hallmark of your poetry. Liz

    lovely

Now, there's one of those closing lines that ensures a second read.
    Luvit!

    • Thanks so much, Tom! I was hoping the last line would have that exact effect and that folks would take time to read again. That first part should come across quite a bit differently in a second read.

      Hopefully yummier!

      Thanks for leaving your thoughts.

    Such a tasteful competition,
    to scented kissing intuition
when distant smokes in fiery strokes
    of ice-cream wishes,
    the topping dripping pools
perspiring sppon to dip in drooling lava,
sipping on a cup of Java.

You are evil! You tricked me...when I got to much of a good thing I thought, "Is she insane? most women would kill for that!" Then the second place bit and I was ready to defend the first guy, you'd have been reading a scathing denunciation right now, lol But, what can I say...every woman I have ever loved know she was only second best in my heart to my true love, Moxie, lol So I can identify with your poem.

Now I'll have that darned song by Journey floating around in my head all day, lol

Now you have to write a poem about your true love.
