The Mask of Death

Welcome to the Masquerade,
Though she begs you,
Do not be afraid.
There are drinks and things to eat,
And if so lucky,
They will cheer you to Eternity.

With different coloured masks,
Do not go telling them secrets,
even if politely asked.
Just subtly smile at the dancers of beauty.
And the life you live will become lively.

Here and there she turns;
She will make the place burn.
With an innocent face; angelic really,
She is becoming deathly.

Now she takes to the floor,
Asking for everyone to dance a little more,
The beat gets faster and dresses swirl,
They are dancing all the way to their hell.

Laughing lightly she is enjoying the scene,
Throwing her hands into the air, her smile beams.
Faster and faster they dance,
Escape while you can; it is your last chance.

The music suddenly stops as the fiddle plays.
No one is going to come out today.
They dance their last, enjoying truthfully,
Their bodies on the floor is utter beauty.

She welcomes you to the Masquerade,
But she begs you
to not be afraid.
And if so lucky;
They will cheer you to Eternity.

Now they get up again as the fiddle stops playing,
She beckons them to dance as they succumb to the lady.
The Waltz, the Foxtrot, Quickstep and even the Tango,
It is not Hell, not Heaven, they are dancing in Limbo.

Drinks appear and the music slows,
Either it's refreshment or dance - whatever goes.
With a sly smile behind the black mask,
A girl's glance; "Shall we?" she asks.

With nightly charade,
of friendliness façade,
She is making them dance like on Meath,
All they way to their own death!

Red dress, blue shirt,
Black pants, white skirt,
Lights are flashing, music growing.
Dancer's smiling, love ever glowing.
Her smile tainted with pain and confusion.
Wake-up now, Freedom is just another Illusion!
