Cell phone era

It's a techno age with gadgets aplenty,
We hand them out with out thought or care,
Never stopping to see whats going on,
Paying for things we don't see,
With texting and net lingo growing,
We seem to be forgetting to stop and ask,
Where are you going?
When will you be home?
Who are you going with?

It's up to us,
To see this made right,
Parents unite,
With all that we can get into,
All the things we do,
Why do we not think our children will do it to?

Are we so out of touch?
That we don't know what they are doing,
To forget about talking and explaining,
Watching to make sure they stay with in the lines,
Limits need to be set,
And kept.

That every day we fade a little more,
With every text massage and Instant messenger,
Every on-line game and chat room,
That our kids are playing in this wide new world,
With out guidance and care,
To fall for a mistake done with out thought,
We could of stopped it,
Prevented it,By simply being there.

To this end we must rethink where we stand in this new age,
We must remember our children run through this new age beside us,
Often learning how to use these new things before us,
Change often comes to soon but for those of us who see,
It needs to be with parents who think before they hand the gadget out,
To set the limits and demanded they behave or we take it away.

This is our job first and for most,
Before any thing else we should be doing,
To take the time from a busy day and see,
To show we care and offer advice,
Or just do the discipline that's needed,

Will it become abuse if we refuse to give these gadgets out,
OR is it abuse not to monitor use of these things,
When will we step forward and  do what must be done?
Where does it stop?
