It was dark.
Pain surrounded my very being,
Little seemed to happen.
Time seemed nonexistent.
That's all I remember.
Pain was my existence,
A burning through my core.
Then came the day
It all changed.
Suddenly there was light.
It was blinding, yet long needed.
In moments I saw your face,
Saw you standing over me,
Offering me a hand,
Pulling me into your numbing embrace,
And yet it wasn't numbing,
It was a feeling,
One that was sweet,
Replacing pain with something different.
Your light opened my eyes,
Taught me how to see past the pain,
Past the nonexistent feeling sitting at my core,
Into a feeling of intense life,
Of living to the full extent of my core.
It was you who brought me here,
Took me from that darkness into a world rich and alive with wonder.
Without you, that emptiness would still exist, that pain,
Yet now, I can barely imagine that pain.
You brought me that light, that love.
My core was dark, my sight, lost,
Now it is bright,
And I, I am alive.

From Dark to Light: Strong!
Awesome write, Jeanette. You take us through our own darkest hours and bring us to the only Light that can set us free of the pain of darkness. Very well written, strong emotion, great flow, and an uplifting conclusion. The only thing I would recommend is to break this out into stanzas for easier reading: one tends to lose one's place with one long piece. Otherwise, this is fantastic.
