Words to Avoid in an Argument

If there is not an except
there will always be a but;
sometimes there is an except and a but
yet could also be confusing

Indeed, except, but, however, and yet
have the power to call off all bets;
just as YOU, instead of saying IT,
causes defensive reactions to spit
at that proverbial smoking gun:
one aimed at them, three at you—
damage done.

    i was there, except i was not, in the line of fire of an arguement, i was physically there, however my mind was elsewhere, it was then that the bullets hit my ego. the words exploded, yet i was not hurt for i was not really there. something like that i think

      I like your contribution in the form of a review of my merry-go-round entry. You quite poetically reveal just how it feels to be in the midst of an argument riddled with words meant to manipulate and destroy. Thank you!

      Luv & hugs, BonnieQ

    Quite interesting - I like the way you have done this, and the depth of it.
    best wishes in the contest

  • Nice. I like your last two lines. Emotional opposition is what this world is all about. It is human nature to oppose and defend the ego. Defending the ego is fear. Love conquers fear.

  • Great Job!

    I see you entered! I like what you did here. Words aptly chosen are like gold to the ears! How's that for a Biblical paraphrase? All the best in the Contest. Thanks for yet another reminder of how to put the fire out!

      Thank you, Kath! I really liked your Biblical paraphrase, such true words. Like you, there are those days when I need that reminder of how to put out another's fire aimed at me.
