Honor Thy Ancestors

Missing image
We are the true blood
of our proud Irish kin,
whose memories live
in our hearts to remain.

We are the seed sprinkled
with tears of Cherokee kin,
who walked in sorrow,
long suffering and pain.

We are the new life
they all dreamed of,
we are green branches
on an old tree of love.

We are the future
they sacrificed for,
we are their legacy,
carried on evermore.

Dedicated to my Irish grandmother, Mollie and my Cherokee great-grandmother, Fannie. May they forever rest in peace, and may we never forget their sacrifices.

    And a legacy we should proudly make,
    of heart and soul for their namesake,
    and stand among the ones who will,
    defy a sorrowed wintery chill.

    too many hearts and minds where lost,
    regardless of the lives they cost,
    but we will carry true their fight,
    and show them all the time is right.


    Brilliant words to honour the courage they showed, and well worthy of adorning the walls as a reminder.
