The old apple tree

The day we kissed I swore to myself
That we would stay like this forever,
Regardless of distance, of  sickness and health,
Through the darkest times and the stormiest weather.

As I lay silent under winter’s hazy shine,
You swore that the God’s were watching with glee,
For both of our counterparts lay here, entwined,
Unreachable, immutable, unbroken and carefree.

But then came the song that spring always sings
When the blossom adorns the old apple tree,
And you whispered, unbroken, uncaring, unmoving,
That the hour had come for you to leave.

So on these spring mornings, I think of the days
When we were immutable, unbroken carefree,
And I wonder if you, a thousand miles away,
Remember our love, and the old apple tree.

Author notes

I'm sure the meaning of this poem is fairly clear. It's just a poem about losing love, and hoping that the person you cared for still remembers you.
