I lay awake as you sleep by my side
almost lifeless, statue-like
I hear you breathe as I lift myself to contemplate
How did we become this far away from each other?
And do I really want to know?
You fall asleep, book in hand, as I waited
patiently for your hands to explore me.
The candle on the nightstand is still burning, as I for you
but alas I’m just dreaming, as you are right now.

Oh this is sad... I felt the desolation here... very good write, last line really powerful!. I like that you said such a lot with not too many words.

beautiful! I love when poets take a seemingly small moment and explore it. Very easy to picture this scene! great job
