Boys will be boys

I never understood
different rules
for boys and girls.

Dirty face and skinned knees
got me a lecture
and him congradulations on manhood.

Learning to ride a bike
or drive a car, nothing big,
for him importnat milestones.

Less than A's on the report card
grounded from TV
he brought him c's and d's.

Drinking a rite of manhood at 13
done with the men
a terrible shame for me.

Smoking pot together on a Sunday afternoon
she returns his, bong and all
thrown mine away
and shakes her head at my female self.

Finally I tell about his touching
going on for yours,
"you know, boys will be boys."

I want to be a boy.

Yes boys will be boys and I guess there is more
rules for a girl then for a boy because maybe they
care and feel that boys can be rough & tough but
    not girls..good one!

I grew up a tomboy and I have the scars to prove it. I'm an only child too, so I can't tell you why the rules are different. Nice write Mom!
