lullaby

the useful new ideas were still unready....
footnotes for tigers
in the burning light
flames waltzing in the desert,

miscellany,
the careful application of stainless steel to flesh,
In Sodom the seraglio forced to close,
the road to Babel has a toll--

they have abeyance
frozen dust motes between bloated beds
endlessly rocking the cradle
sheds the day-glo
infrared, shades of the glimmering bodies.

A blackened parchment,
her hair falls over her eyes
as she leans forward
tremulous with discord,
when she is  an arboretum
the quick flare of a furious  stare;

miscellany,
the old stationary is burnt
inventories
genealogies
sketches of windows cut in masonry
inset with a granite slab
to lean on when there is a parade,

tomorrow certainly--
the details of the narrow street
obscured by color,
rainspouts and barrels,
the black sprawl of some politician's wife
etched low on further wall
an old man who was in the doorway yesterday
unrolled and swept away
some gray hair caught in the wooden door
in which he had leaned;

lists of the dead
glimmering bodies
rich enough to be bled.
Henceforth
the marble is to be cut; wryly
and it is said,
“...that he will carry you up.”
not to wake  between
the bits of dust
the light stab of faltering night.
The maelstrom configured
in a light sheen on the forehead,

but not yet new
tucked into coverlet
and kissed into.

don't know if the machine invented the human or vice versa
or if it's a passionate circle (or circus) of damn batteries need recharging
so the story goes murky with briliance and asking for pilot glasses:
when religion meets science (and not in a lame way) people (the bad ones of course, no doubt, without a question) eat atomic mushrooms
should I wonder what happens when science meets religion in a lame way?

Depart, depart, be dust be dead ... be sure to burn the waste to shreds.

  • did you intend to reference "the tiger" by william blake in the first stanza? in any case, it caught my eye and reminded me how deeply i love your work. this one is a bit long for me. i've got the attention span of a six year old, although i WANT to read all of it thoroughly because you tend to scatter lyrical gems throughout your poem that makes it impossible to just skim your work. it must be appreciated, turned over in the mind over and over again like one of those rain sticks, i suppose. i hope you know what i'm talking about when i say rain stick.

anyway. i remain a huge fan.

I've read this several times -- it is a world. and the last stanza is magical.

footnotes for tigers -- i'll steal that.

    rainspouts and parades

look at the words -- mostly pretty simple but strung together in a way that creates such depth

i'm just going to enjoy this -- for now. it is one of those that "meaning" sort of seeps in at a later time.

i like when you are writing.
