If you were alive again
I would be there more for you
If you were alive again
I would get a set of keys
I would check up on you everyday
If you were alive I would try to help you go cold turkey
If you were here I would say how sorry I am
For not being as understanding
You were hurting mum so much
With your addiction and gambling
All we wanted was to support you from a further distance
If you were alive again I'd make us all move back into our house
I would take anything if you were alive again
Just to get your smile back again
If you were alive again
You would not have an option for suicide
The are so many things that I regret
What if I had come to check
What if I had banged the glass in
What if I had been the one to stop you
Why couldnt I stop my anger getting in the way
Of all people I should know the pain
If you were alive again
You would only have a month to wait
A month til rehab
A month to wait to get your family back
Dad if you were alive again
I would tell you how much you were loved!

Very sad. It's always sad when it's too late to say those things. Thanks for entering.

This one had me in tears.
I lost my own dad to a brain aneurysm when he was 54. He had been struggling so much with a divorce shortly before he died, and his depression was getting really bad from ten years of suffering with diabetes, which really ravaged his body. He was a country music singer when he was alive, and loved to play his guitar. I never was old enough to go to see him on stage, and I miss him.
I have no doubt that your father does know how much he was loved. I don't know what your personal beliefs are, but I do believe in God, and I believe your father will always be with you. I feel both of my parents around me quite often, and it helped me a lot when I was grieving.
for your dad....

This is beautiful as well. I'm sure your father knows how much he was loved by you. Thank you for sharing this with me.

Great way to express yourself again. I hope you don't carry guilt. Sometimes all we can do is love people with addictions..we can't stop them. I'm sorry for your loss.
