Misconceptions

Does it really matter so much?
What real difference does it make?
will the earth fall off its axis,
will it make the mountains shake.

If their skin's a different colour,
or their eyes slant at the end,
does it really make them outcasts,
or could they still be your best friend.

If their sexual persuasion,
is somewhat different to  our own,
who are we to then condemn them,
when inside it's all they've known.

If a woman deeply loves a woman,
or a man is attracted to a man,
or they lean in both directions,
to be true to their own life's plan.

It does not make them unworthy,
to be part of this human race,
They may still hold their heads with pride,
and look the world straight in its face.

For they too are human beings,
and no different from the rest,
they all deserve to be respected with
whatever differences they've been blessed.

This is true. We may not agree, but, it is not our right to judge. I like a person for who they are, not what they are. Good points brought out in this write. Very good.

I like the message here and I'm glad that it tackled two discriminations: racism and homophobia. I like the pun on 'straight'. It was a very strong poem emotionally, if I were to change it I'd change 'its' to 'it's' on line 13. I think the title is very direct and the last line to me has religious connotations, which challenges the idea of religious homophobia.
Thanks for helping me with the hacker.

Thank you for coming to visit, and for pointing out the error, I will sort that.
As for any 'religious' conotations in the last line, nope, that most certainly was the last thing on my mind when writing it. Religion and I are a contradiction in terms...... lol
Thank you for your thoughts here. Every reader will take something differnt from any write which is read.

as I wrote in one of my rambling moments if you want to learn how to fly then open your arms wide and take in the world for only love can take you to the greatest heights where only beauty can be seen. This is a beautiful and heartfelt write. I loved it

I am very glad to see this poem. Many people want to hide what they are because they are afraid of discrimination. People tend to judge others without stopping to think sometimes. When they judge them they don't let go of what they felt and it can interfere the way they think with them.
This is wonderful and I really hope that people stop and search inside themselves to see if they are judging anyone. If they feel uncomfortable reading this they need to think about the reason why...
ok sorry I rambled with this comment I just think that this is a really good poem.

Very well stated Ann - who are we to judge a person, on their skin colour (any colour), their sexuality whatever. Our differences make life so much more interesting. Get to know the 'person' first - that's the most important thing. Von

    EXCELLENT

You sertainly served up a mouthful, food for the ears! Great Job!

  • Good write,

I have learned that in spite of differences of views that God loves all whether a saint or a murderer. All are the same in the eyes of God and that should be good enough for me at the bottom line. Great write, God bless you, Mark

Well stated Ann, there are too many things about the world that really matter to get caught up in someones sexual oreientation. No one chooses to be a Homosexual- it is wired into them I never understood why people get so upset or treat people differently because of it- ignorance I guess.

Our differences are our blessings, and I think it's great that you pointed that out. Had I been born just a regular straight guy I don't know if I would be the really awesome person I am now. Instead I am trans, and what I have faced because of that has given me so much more strength than I think I would have had.
Thanks so much for your entry.

    Good Stuff

You voice a powerful and convincing argument that bigots of every kind would do well to listen to and you do it in a style that can only be called poetic.
I am impressed by both the skill and the sentiments.
    Well Done!

    AMEN !

    Well versed.
If only, the online poets & pundits actually created change in the world. 'Judgemental ignorance and hatred of tolerance, continues to fester in the human Spirit.

  • Fantastic work mum, read your other post too last night, you seem to have a knack for tackling the challenges of life in poetic form.

    Love it

A powerful message in this poem, Sis.

    "whatever differences they've been blessed"

If only more people could think of it as a blessing like any other love, what a difference it could make. That line alone is the magic of this piece.

A wonderful write Good luck in the contest
