The Better Part of Me

Preserved like a mint collectors series never touched
Unscathed as if layers of polish had repelled all handling
As tender as a new born and it’s mother
This brave heart is rugged like a chest that won’t be pryed

Through tragedy and mishap
Adorned with miracles and milestones
As if the front line soldier
It will not slow at the sound of distant blows

Each bruise heals as scars fade away
For what It regrets tomorrow
May be preventable today

Memories kept like secrets
For they reveal the truth of past, somehow
Facing haunting demons
As well as the honesty of now

My captor and my confidante
Faltering in wisdom but never actuality
Releasing what’s no longer important
Knowing when it’s okay to accept a formality

Safe as a child proof cap still sealed on the shelf
As unorthodox as a Willy Wonka gold chocolate wrapper
Dancing with fire engulfed with desire
Evil Kenivil couldn’t have taught my heart to be more daring

And all the while I wonder….
Is my mind as resiliant as my dear heart?

I thank you much for your kind comment, unfortunately the contest has ended. This was a poem I had written on my own without the inspiration of a contest, therefore it was tough to try and place it in any random contest and hope to win. Although, I am still looking. lol.

      Take care and my blessings
