The Uncertainty Principle

Uncertainty's bound to confuse
And nothing is all that is seems
You cannot know all you must choose
And Heisenberg saw it in dreams
        A particle's really a wave
At least when it's pushed to extremes
        Predictions are really quite brave
And Heisenberg saw it in dreams
Position and speed are combined
That's one of the physical themes
You have to keep that in your mind
And Heisenberg saw it in dreams
        Uncertainty's bound to confuse
And Heisenberg saw it in dreams

Author notes

The Heisenberg uncertainty principle states that we cannot know everything about a particle, in particular that the momentum and position are interlinked and the more accurately you know one the less accurately you know the other.
This is at the root of a lot of important advances in quantum mechanics etc.

Kinda makes you wonder about the value of measuring anything! At least he didn't go around shoving cats into boxes and pretending they weren't there!

  • well done here.

I agree with the other, I hated science if they did it this way I could of aced it

    Love you

Knowledge is valuable in its own right.

Not knowing things doesn't make you stupid, not wanting to know things does

My uncle was a physicist. Physics confuses me. Thank you for trying to make it clearer!

  • Science in a sonnet --- well now perhaps if they had done it in poetry in the text books I would have stayed with it beyond GCSE.
