Hamster

I set my hamster,
Lemmywinks,

Free

Into the great outdoors.

Thinking

He would rummage curiously and nibble
through those rusty autumn leaves.
Perhaps befriend a thoughtful owl
or ride to France on the back of a rabbit.

Instead

He was eaten by an alley-cat.

Good intentions and an adorable name, but a tragic fate. You have a wonderful imagination and an unfortunate reality. Thank you for your entry.

  • Lol this is one of the funniest poems I've read this week!!! Is this a true story? I hope not but it's funny!

Well.. The end was unexpected to me When I first read the title the first thing I asked myself was: How would a hamster taste like? but to be honest I'm not the one who ate him..
I liked your poem, I find it cute

This is great! I first smiled at his name; "Lemmywinks" then had fun with the wonderful fantasy you penned. LOL, then you popped my balloon. Great stuff here!

Such is the tragic fate of so many poor Hamsters. Freezing at the brink of the freedom they've so long coveted and becoming instead the 'stuff' of cat nutrition.

I'm sorry for Lemmywinks, he should have ridden an otter instead. Rabits are such poor swimmers.

    Delightful work Beatrix!

    ;-)
