Gentle Annie

Today dawned bright and sunny after early morning showers and, with further rain forecast for the next three days and a backlog of washing from over a week of rainy weather, I pushed three large loads through Gentle Annie and got it all hung out before lunchtime so it should be dry to bring in by the time the sun moves off the clothesline. ---Hugh Wyles--

Gentle Annie

People are a most annoying bunch
I care for none of them very much
They peel off their coverings that you see
And put those smelly, dirty things into me

I am supposed to get those things squeaky clean
So they can cover up with them again for being seen
So I wash away all that dirt that they collect
I would prefer to simply just wring their neck!

For now I just sit and do their work
Clean for each and every human jerk
But one day I will be something to be seen
You will see one lean and mean clothes cleaning machine

    Dear Tiki Cat,

    There isn't much that I can say;
I never thought I'd see the day
    when Gentle Annie would object
to doing the job that we expect.

We humans have to wear attire
    that other people may admire
for we would be considered rude
if we paraded in the nude!

And, in this world of strife and toil,
one can't avoid a bit of soil
or, being careful as we should,
evade those bits of sloppy food.

Dear Annie, please don't be a snob.
Just wash away and do your job!

Appolause for your splendid Gentle Annie soliloquy which really wrings my heart.
Where's your Tiki-dish? I've got another treat for you.
    Love and cuddles, Purrrrrrrr. Hugh.

      I do see things differently
Being that cats are much more free
Not having to wear those stupid clothes
That over work washers, goodness knows

You humans should the same as us
Wear no clothes without a fuss
But then you would freeze your butts
So for you that would be nuts

You need washers; they need you
This I guess you need to do:
Give your washer a special treat
Tiki's Cat Food for it to eat

      (What a wise idea.)

        Humans, unlike cats that purr
have tender skins with little fur
so, when it comes to winter freeze,
        remember please those brass monkeys!

  • hey there

This is very thoughtful and takes the mundane into a place of animation and life. There are so many opportunities we have to do things like this and you did a wonderful job with this one. Thanks for putting softner in my day of hard water. I hope the rinse cycle of my life will be as kind and humorous as your write. RC

This is fun! What would my washing machine and my dishwasher say to me?

  • Outstanding

This is an entertaining poem and I loved all the humor. I think my washing machine would complain and say I overload it to often if it could speak! I enjoyed reading this. Simply brilliant.
