As I wandered out in the night
I saw a very strange sight
All the stars were fleeing away
And it was not yet the break of day
“Hey, Where are you going” I cried
But they disappeared without reply
Leaving only the dark night sky.
Turning to the sun lit moon
I asked him “Why did they leave
It is not their time it is too soon.”
The moon laughed and weaved
Light back to me saying only this
“I have seen them flee before
And imagine I will once more
For stars are such fickle beings
In their games and other fun things.
I shall call one again on track
So you can ask your question.
A single star came zooming back
And sighed when it saw a human.
“What do you want” the star snapped
At me who was glaring back
“Why did you leave the night sky?”
I asked with a lonely cry.
The star hummed and harred
“All we ever hear from humans
Is wishes and wonders
Yet you have the choice
To dance and sing
In the warmth of Spring
To breath and laugh and cry
And yet you wish on us up high
We envy every one of you
For all the things you can do.”
I sat stunned upon the earth
And told the star in whispered words
“But you dance and play in the dark of night
Glimmering and sparkling so bright
Your parties are a wonderful sight
And you guide us with your heavenly light”
Suddenly the stars came back
They had heard and were arguing
Finally one turned and sighed
“Yes the partying up in the sky
Is indeed the life of a star
So I guess it is not surprising
That you wish like you are.”
They took up their positions once more
And the sight caused my heart to adore.
Turning I saw the moon, folding away
I yelled out “oh no, not you too”
But the moon laughed and whispered
“Oh no this is just a normal cycle
Like the change of night and day
Or the seasons as they change”
Suddenly my eyes opened to see
That the moon was a lady!
So I bowed and smiled
To her soft glow back.
I than turned for the break of day
And hoped that the sun wasn’t to play
Any more games on me.
