I'll Grant You That...

Animals can sense when we're in pain -
they try to comfort us, bring a little
sunshine to our rainy days, especially
my three dogs when I'm depressed.

The little schnoodle whines to be held
all the time like a baby - he's so talkative,
so verbal...he's got the other two dogs
trying to talk now to get attention.

My scotty I can understand - we have
full conversations, which frankly doesn't
sit well with some people, but oh well.
He's my baby; I know him very well.

Funny thing is, two years ago when I was
out at night past 11 PM and was charged
by a cougar in my own backyard, he did
nothing but stare; fortunately, neither

Of us came to any harm, but I was scared
for more than a year to go out by myself
at night with the dogs; Bosco now, he will
stand his ground and defend, corgi that he is.

A big dog with little legs we call him, and
so he is: his ears are like radar dishes - they
pick up everything and he barks at the sound
of falling leaves, not to mention everything else.

He's the first on the scene to defend us when
strangers come to the door - the other two
run away and hide, or Duke our schnoodle
attacks and licks our visitor to death.

Whenever I cry, Duke licks me all over, even when
I've stopped...he does what he can in his own
little way to make me feel better and I smile,
though I know where that tongue has been!

Author notes

Our three dogs are Bosco (corgi), Giacomo (scotty), and Duke (schnoodle).

    Hoodwink!

I now first hand how much a little dog can bring so much joy to us. I had to hav my little dog Frisco put down last summer at 15yrs old. He was the best friend I ever had. This is such a precious poem and tribute to your babies, and a joy to read...

Awww, I am a dog lover too. I have had a collie, two dachunds, and our family currently has a Sof Coated Wheatin terrier. Dogs have such personalities.

Don't know how people can not love animals.

This was fun to read. They do do so much for us. I really do prefer animals to people. I don't know what that makes me... anti-social I suppose, but they're kinder, more understanding, and they actually listen. I talk to our dogs. I talk to my lizards! I think they understand me. Maybe I'm crazy, but I like it that way.

    Very cute doggies.
