Alice

In the morning, Alice
creeps up to my head
and sits solidly, looking,
upon my chest
as I lie on my back in bed.

She's a substantial cat
and getting weightier.
Sooner or later,
I shift and she moves
to her favourite chair.

In either spot, she gazes
with those magical big green eyes
that are piercing and wise
and able to see right through me.

I remember so fondly
one morning I lay,
and she came along
and gave me

a sweet little kiss
like she wanted to say
good morning, human being,
I will never go away.

She will go away but
she doesn't know that.
Doesn't that make her
an amazingly  lucky cat?

This is such a familiar thing to me. Our cats definately know how to come in to wake us up in the morning. One of our cats is substantial, like Alice sounds, and its almost uncomfortable to have him sit on my chest- I can't breathe! Cats are such wonderful companions! This was a fun one to read
