Leaf the Rakes

Wow! I just looked out the window
and saw the bright shine a sunnin'.
Better git the leaf to the rakes,
and drink in a bit of funnin'
while leafin' 'em into nice smiles.
Oops! Guess that word should'a been piles.
Oh! I Must be missin' my strain;
for my pen's become mighty blurred,
its ink comin' out all crooked.
Uh, I'm s'posin' that should be words.
Well, just blame that ole strain doctor
who poked 'round in my selector.
Aw, gees! Better quit while behind,
cuz this ain't makin' any cents.
Everone's gonna think I'm nuts!
I just give those to the fence.
Really I do and they love 'um.
Yep, those feathers are greedy bums!

Author notes
Yeah, well, you see this was written not long after brain surgery. They shaved my head, then when I had about an inch of hair, my daughter punked it neon pink standing on end. Hysterically funny: there's a picture of this somewhere on All Poetry.
Probably in my Humor List.

As the Lord says, "Laughter is medicine to the bones." There is humor in everything, if we look for it!

Hoodwinked!
This made me laugh and smile! I was having a rough morning, so I am glad that I clicked on this piece to read. I really like this piece as well and looking at the title it was not at all what i expected. And I really like it the way you have written it. Great job and keep it up.
always write from the heart
Never give up

Piles of smiles!
Can't say this has happened to me with my writing, though I do still drop letters while writing or typing & sometimes I can't pull up the words I want when speaking & often say things I don't want [eh...I did that before my Traumatic Brain Injury!] ~ all this can make a good joke at my expense. Hey...as you say...find the humor & laugh! Liked this a lot. Wow...neon pink punked hair? I'd sure like to see that! I used to have hair all the way down to my waist & couldn't find humor in my shaved head. I still miss my long hair & it's been 14 years now! Oh well ..things have to change. Thanks for the medicine Bonnie. All the best in the Contest.

This made me smile. Good work, namesake.

I too must have gone through something of the same, as this made perfect sense to me.Having said that perhaps it is the wacky baccy or the Earl Grey Tea that kicked in What ever i enjoyed it immensely Good luck in the contest

Thank you, my darling son!
You should read "Jus Wunna Them Days;" my aunt and I get carried away with our strange language. She's blond and I have blond roots, so what can I say?
