Freedom

There is a ring of children in a garden far away,
They’re holding hands in joy and dancing, rosy is their play.

A lovely girl is there whose body fits her not so well,
But sing she does and crystalline, all hate she will dispel.

Another lass who whispers pain, a precious flirt is she,
Her scars the pattern up her arm, now happy, she is free.

The boys and girls who form the round, all hues and size and choice,
All marked and marred by chilling hearts united raise their voice.

A lonely girl stands at the edge, she longs to join their game,
But paralyzed in fear, her cruel treatment is to blame.

They notice her and stop their play, drop hands to turn and see,
She cringes, covers up her face, and fights the urge to flee.

Encircling her, they calm her fears, acceptance there is found,
For Freedom is this garden’s name, where joy and peace abound.

  • How beautifully done! Only when we, as sisters, join our hands with each other, women will never be respected as they should, let alone the children who need us to unite in love and peace and honor.

    Bravo!

    • Thank you so much. Actually this is autobiograghical, the people in this are real.
Thanks for your visit and lovely comment

  • Beautiful story poem!

I rarely see rhyme done so well and so expressively
The only difficulty I have with the meter is the second half of L5. My mind trips over that part a bit. I think a simple rephrasing of that might produce an unobstructed flow.
    Great job!
