Damn The Match Maker

you go through life and look for that special person
you look every place you go trying to force it
one day when you least expect it, there she is
its like spontaneous combustion with fire

you fall hard and know in your heart she is the one
who will be there forever and you there for her
you dream of one day coming home from work
she will be there to kiss you asking about your day

you are willing to give her the world, mostly your love
but she throws it back in your face because once
she was hurt by a man and is afraid to reach out
I don't know the match maker but damn him anyway

I love this poem - especially the last line! It's particularly heart-breaking to me because I've been that girl. Believe me, it feels much worse to finally figure out that I 'defended' myself against a good man and ruined what could have been a wonderful thing. Even worse was realizing that I had become the one to hurt a trusting soul just because of my own fear. He got over it much sooner than I did.

a very deserving win.i like how this gets to the point but shows no bitterness.it has a matter of fact tone but there is an underlying tenderness. this is a poem that says you are a good communicator.
