Eat, Drink and Be Merry

I AM jealous and furious
and will take revenge on Mine enemies;
so, give strong drink to the drunkards
destined to perish for eternity.
Don't forget those with stone hearts and
gluttons, who refuse Christ and all God's Law.
These are destitute in spirit:
with wine let them forget their pending fall.

Howl, all you gluttons and drunkards;
for to you salvation has been denied.
In a stupor, you lust the flesh
of fallen women and, "More wine," you've cried.
More of the serpent that bit you;
thus, you will perish by its deadly sting:
for like fools speaking parables,
you are numb to My Son's life-giving spring.

My people, do not come near these,
for they have a firm date with destruction.
Set them apart if among you,
for they received not my Son's instruction.
They seek only that of the flesh;
all works of abomination to Me.
With My Word, you're not in darkness;
yet for them, My Kingdom they shall not see.

  • No.

    This tells about two of the seven deadly sins. It's not showing us them through poetry, just telling. This poem however does show emotion and imagery. Just not what I'm looking for in this contest. Thanks for your entry and please wait for the other judges.

      Josh, the only sin of the deadly seven mentioned in this poem is gluttony: the drunkard is not one of the seven, therefore it falls into the category of gluttony.

      • I think that wrath is a part of this poem too. Anger at people not following His way. And it's not a bad thing to have more than one sin it either I was just saying. lol

    I could not agree more. Few people on this earth hate alcohol as much as I do. I see the destruction it reaped on so many in my family. It is the family curse. One that never touched me by the grace of God. I fear alcohol and will not touch it. Great write and full of truth my friend. God bless you, Mark

    • You are missing out on a nice glass of wine. Never mind, that is your loss. Jesus enjoyed a glass of wine with his meals.

      I so totally empathize with you, Mark. While there were some alcoholics, drunks as it were, in my stepdad's family, drinking was not an issue in our home. Alas, my mother was prescription drug addicted from age 19 until she successfully overdosed at age 57, just short of her next birthday. So, I hate all addictions; for, as you say, they destroy more than just the addict. It is "A Painful Legacy" to leave one's children and their children and on down the line.

      Much love & hugs, BonnieQ

  • You pen with talent. All evil, wicked thoughts shall perish. All universal loving thoughts are eternal.

    All is true and very plainly pointed out in the bible. Yet, that is what some of you were, so the good news is that by taking a stand for Christ and repenting of such sins can lead to everlasting life rather than destruction by fire. May all who read take note and ponder these words of wisdom and truth.

    Love ya mom

      Thank you, darling daughter, for the support of this rather hard message. Of course, we know that God's Word is not smooth, but its intent is to save. Praise the Lord!

      Tons of luv & hugs, MomB

    Amen

    No drunkards - no whoremongers - no war mongers - no foricaters - no gamblers - will iherit the kingdom of God except they repent - so it is important that our sins go before and not follw after - if a human says that they have not sinned they are liars - Bless God Bonnie - Luv n' Hugs Joe
