His Voice

Missing image

His voice called to me in my sleep,
to return to the place of my birth.
The home I should never have left,
waiting for me, this place where I came from.

It has been twenty one years
since I have been to this place.

Why, now, am I being called back here?

Wait, this can not be my old home,
for it looks like it has been an
empty shell for over one hundred years.

But, I can still hear his voice,
calling me back, back here.
Telling me it's time to return home.

Home to live my life as it was meant to be.

I know I was born here in this building,
as I stand here half way there.
It feels like I am walking in a dream,
heading to my doom once again.

But, his voice, his voice is calling to me.
Each step takes me closer to him,
to his voice,
how, I long for that sound again
in my ear.

How, I long to hear him again.

Top step now within reach,
and I can open the door
to both my past and future.

But, do I want to give up this present life,
the one I have known
for the last twenty one years..
this life that I have been given.

Still, his voice calls me...
from beyond time and space,
back to the life I once had.

I must go back, go back to him.

As I step into the house,
it changes again,
to the lovely place it was.

I can see him coming here for me,
yes, this is where I truly belong.
With the ones who love me.

In my own time and place...

Goodbye old life.

I am finally home.

What a great gothic story you have written! I enjoyed it very much. Every line increased the tension, as the woman tried to decide where she belonged. And you left so much to our imaginations... makes me wonder if we all have these past lives calling to us... if this is why we sometimes act or write a certain way... how else could these stories come into our heads... Wonderful, in the truest sense of the word! Lita

    Excellent

Very deep, very spiritual, it teaches us that we must all get in touch with our roots

Well...I see much more in this than meets the eye. Is this your intention JoJo, or am I reading into something that isn't really there?

Now you got me thinking...geeze JoJo...I though I was gonna get to go the whole day without thinking

Very nicely done piece though. I hope that it is merely your muse speaking, and not things that do not belong in your thoughts...

This is really interesting and a captivating read.
I love the imagery and thought that you put into
this write. A voice from beyond the grave or space and time reaching out to lead you back home. Wonderful words here and good luck with this one in the contest dear! Take care!
