Putrid smell of death filled my lungs
and I gasped for air almost
too foul to breathe as I awoke
to the shrilled wail of
a frantic baby crying.
I was in a musty room
on a creaking floor so dirty
it felt like ground, and then came
the sound of a thousand moans
in the near distance.
I noticed a crimson light
like an eerie dawn breaking through
dusty boarded windows.
Leaping to my feet, heart pounding
I discovered the faint flicker of
a candle, on a table in a corner
and a note that simply read
“run for you life.”
