Living in Hell - You Should Get It.

It had been said by many, blacks and whites and others plenty,

that it would be a cold day in hell before a Black man would reign supreme.

Well needless to say, the twentieth  of January was a very cold day,

and there was a black man as president when most thought it extreme.

That's the moment it should have been said, let's all move ahead,

cause we've been residing much too long in this hell.

Should the color of one's skin, determine the work he wants to put in,

to help bring this country out of its constantly cracking shell.

What will it take to make them get, that on our laurels we can no longer set,

thinking America is so great it will bounce back on its own.

The color of the man need not matter, because we can no longer flatter,

ourselves into believing a white America still holds the throne.

The economy sits now firmly in hell, and still some say oh well,

that's just not the way we want these things to be done.

If we relegate things to just an elephant or ass, blue, pink or green grass,

it will  be our very existence looking down the barrel of a gun.

No matter what's seen black and white, some will try with all their might,

to cloud the truth of the vessel sent to our rescue.

Not only don't they get it, they don't even try to set it,

straight so the country can be saved and get what its due.

The people were brought out together, in the coldest of weather,

believing in change and the reverberation of " Yes We Can!"

So whether they get it now, they will have to get it somehow,

because the change that is needed has come in a "family man!"

  • Bravo!

Not only did I enjoy the poem's bits of internal rhyme and assonance, but I loved the subject matter. You captured much of the frustration I have been feeling at the ridiculous and petty-minded criticisms being leveled at the first president I've truly felt proud of in decades.

Good job, my friend. Thanks for giving vent to my own aggravation in such a wonderful way.

Its beautiful that people are one step closer to accepting one another for who the are and not how they look. Be it the color of their eyes, skin or hair, their gender, age, or preference. We are all people.
    Wonderful poem, extremely well put,

  • It is a day to mark the history books. One I hope marks the progression of mankind's evolution in civilization.

Our president has his work cut out for him. Too many years of the "haves" in power and he cannot remedy everything overnight.

Many will point to him as failing, quickly forgetting the pile of muck-mire he inherited. But what we can do is rally around our president and do our best to help him succeed. I see a new pride in America coming around the corner.

A pride that sees the man and not the color of the man.

You have written so well here. Thank you for sharing these beautiful thoughts and hopes for a brighter tomorrow.

    I loved this. ~Pamela

Presidents inherit the economy more than they can control it, and I am wondering how spending 14 trillion dollars is supposed to make things better, but I support Prez Obama and celebrate the fact that a man who is half black was finally able to become president. Hopefully, seeing a person of color in the oval office will mark the beginning of the end of the victim mentality held by many people of color - that they can't possibly succeed in America because it is an inherently racist country. This is proof positive that it isn't, at least not anymore. That's what I celebrated on inauguration day.

The poem is full of the same vivacity and hope that defines the man. Nicely done, my friend.

  • We should all rejoice in what we have done. We elected a man of connection to all races. And, from what I have seen he is doing a mighty fine job, where others may have been in a frenzy he has calmly handled everything that comes his way in an intelligent and reasonable manner.

While we disagree on the qualities our our new President, as always, you've done an awesome job with this piece, girl. Though I have to disagree with the assumptions of this piece, I definitely agree with the tone...that it is MORE than time that our country allowed a black candiate to take the highest office in the land. As always, my friend, a moving write, proving once again that you write best from your convictions, and your heart. Good write!

Your font is black on a dark blue background, and I had to highlight the poem to see the contents.

Even though I had to take an extra second to highlight the words, it was well worth the read and I totally understand...as a matter of fact. I OVERSTAND your sentiments. There are those who honestly believe that racism is over because Barack Obama is now the president. My feelings are the issue of race is on the table and it is high time we sifted through it to get to the proper, positive end.

The man and his wife went through the check and balance system that is a prerequisite in this country, and passed with exceptionally high scores. If that is not enough for some...I say; "oh well". My guess is that for some people, the rules will always seem to change when we prove ourselves to be as equals. ~Sigh.

I say, get over it and get on with it. We have some issues in the economy that definitely have no color as their basis.

I am with you 100% dear sister. Keep keeping it real! I say it's almost HEAVEN!

    Always Loving YOU ♥

    Poignant

A most informative and inspiring write
that gives plenty of food for thought.
I seriously believe that most people are
    walking around wearing blinders because
they don't want to awake from the fantasy.
We as americans can no longer live like that.
Too much is at stake. For our children
aswell as us. I hope someone gets it
before it's too late. Great write.

    AMEN, Amen, amen! Yeah!

Marj, you've written a masterpiece and stated the obvious in the process. Alas, the Spirit has shown me that, while Obama is the right man, those in government as well as the people, ultimately, will not work with him.

Yes, it is a death sentence for this nation, and the world really, but it must be in order to bring Christ in the clouds; for putting Obama in office is God's way of showing the world that man has acted too late. It should have been done long ago!

Obama is a very admirable man and he is doing God's will; contrary to what some people say and of what they accuse him.

    Much luv & hugs, SisBon
