Nella

Nella was the first rabbit,
the only little bunny
I ever took care of.
she's a real honey.

I was asked to go there again
and it was an honour to go
Nella was glad to see me,
I think, but it's hard to know

She didn't scratch or bite.
She ate her food quite nicely.
She was timid but a lovely sight
and eventually she climbed out

and did a little walkabout
in her owner's room mate's room.
I opened the cage to let her out
and watched her as she pondered

for a while,  sniffing her cage
around its edge, then climbed out
hippity hop, a display of courage
since she hardly knew me

she is a dwarf lionhead,
a light chocolate colour,
so soft and sweet,
her fur so smooth and neat.

I love your poem about your lovely Nella it brought back memories of my white dwarf bunny Thumper he was even litter boxed trained and I kept him in the house I used him in my magic shows when I was clowning he loved the children so much. I miss him so. Thanks for sharing, hugs Theresa

    • Thanks for your comment. I love going to take care of little Nella though I don't let her out of the cage very often. Things get a bit tense if she hops under the bed since I have bad knees. But she is lots of fun and so pretty.

      Hugs

  • Yes, they are lovely but koala bears are appealing also.

    Thanks for your comments.

We cannot keep rabbits in Australia.

Since misguided English gentlemen brought them out to this country, they (the rabbits) have become #1 scourge.
However, as a child, I loved reading about bunnies. I guess your poem makes me a tad bit nostalgic.
