Tuesday: It's his hands that make her think

when the magpie sits on the fence
by the small plot of grass
where miss tilly has her morning ablutions

i talk to him, telling him of what the day might bring
clouds make pictures in my head
why is grass green & why does miss tilly piddle
in the same spot every day

mr. magpie looks on
sometimes he caws to his mate
white on black
feathers proud, no need to peacock
he shines moreso when told of day and night
quietly shy & a man of few words

but when he speaks his voice has a softer tone
that makes my kitten-fur knit around
the palms of his hands

it's the simple equation
of the birds and the bees

this man bird on the fence all the time, the coming and going fair weather type, i think it's ironic his white and black plumage, like day on night, a bird of few caws would be able to speak voce suave or in any tones other than the far ends of the scale, in sharps and flats, loud or soundless. strange bird. -s

it's the softer tone of a voice that really gets to us and make us think...and make us write poetry like you did here, gilly
