Dad

                      DAD

What can I say now that your gone?
The feelings I had buried inside.
I was always unable to express myself
or found it difficult to confide.
I never was able to say I love you
And now its too late, I wish I had tried.

As I grew up you took the time
to help me become a man
By carving out pinewood derby cars
and teaching me to have a plan.
The vacations we took together
to view the mighty mountains span.

You taught me how hit a ball.
You taught me how to drive.
You taught me how to catch.
You taught me how to dive.
You taught me how to ride a bike.
You taught me how to survive.

You showed me how to plant a garden.
You showed me how to fly a kite.
You showed me how to shoot a basket.
You showed me how to fight.
You showed me how to live my life.
You showed me how to do things right.

The quiet times we spend fishing
or listening to records on the phonograph.
Cheering and yelling for our team.
Grilling burgers while making us laugh.
Paddling down a river stream.
Sharing memories of an old photograph.

While in the hospital you wanted to go home
but God had other plans for you.
You’re free of all that brought you pain.
Now you’re with all the friends you knew.
You’re rejoicing with your mom and dad.
Building castles in heaven amongst a sky so blue.

Thanks for reading my poem about losing my dad. I still miss him a lot.

  • How did I miss this? I know I have not been on AP much so that is probably why.
Charley, you have expressed your feelings so well in this write.
The reader can feel your emotions as they tug hard at the heart.
Your love and devotion to your dad shines brightly through your words.
He knows you loved him, sometimes words don't need to be said as actions speak more, and the things you shared between one another were done with love.
He knows what is in your heart, and he would not want you to have regrets with not being able to tell him how much you loved him, for he understands.
He sounded like a wonderful father, one you can be proud of , he is your hero as you are his.
Thank you for sharing your heart and soul with us Charley.
I wish you well with much love and happiness.
Take care sweet heart, and know that this angel loves you with all her heart and soul, for our friendship will forever be!
    always your friend,
    ~Anne~
