"I ran through the room, in my arms I held the child
The door had been destroyed, the flames around me ran wild
No where to run, danger at every turn.
But I had to go somewhere, before she got burned.
I wondered if I could make it through alive
Let alone her life, the smoke was getting to me, would I survive?
A piece of wood lifted itself somehow, either that or I missed it
It yanked at my leg, but I recovered quickly, looked back and cursed it
My arm was scorched then, I didn't think I could carry on and get through it.
But the child cried out, closed my eyes, dug deep, ran through it.
Made it through the window, collapsed with a cheesy smile.
Handing the baby over to the lady made it all worthwhile.
Feeling like a savior, I was questioned by everybody.
"Anybody else inside?" "No sir, nobody."
"Are you hurt?" "No, I just got scarred."
I closed my schoolbook, damn creative writing is hard!
The teacher came by, I handed it to her, knowing I'll score zero
But at least it was finished, Overcome, my story about a hero.

"I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles." -Christopher Reeve

awh! such a cute poem
firefighters are built of some amazing substances, they truly are heroes.
for your second poem, this was fabulous! my only suggestions are to work a little on your flow, it seems only a tad forced at times, and just watch your rhymes and spelling. you did a fabulous job, and i am honored to have your poem in my contest!!!
good luck!

Welcome to Allpoetry
I really like the description in this piece. You have also used your punctuation very well to structure your poem. I like the rhyme at the end, very well done here. Welcome to the site ^_^
