Maturing Muse

Missing image
Breaking ground in my fertile mind
halts the decay of complacency
where my emotions lie in wait
of freedom from this prison!

I have plowed and sowed the upper fields
with metered rhyme since I was a child.
My harvest yielded the most bountiful crops
in painful years, of life lessons suffered!

This bottom land by my river of thought,
is so rich and fertile, with the wisdom of time.
I draw on past pain, with depth of perception
that eluded, the impatience of my youth.

I was not ready, to put in straight lines
the soulful thoughts, sung by my heart
until this, fertile bottom land opened up
with the enlightenment of a mature mind.

Loved the pic...showing the labor that it takes, keeping steady to the plow, what it feels like to endure and keep planting, never knowing what we shall reap. Well done. Thanks for entering. Blessings.

sometimes words play around in my mind for a long time before they make it to my notebook or keyboard. I like the way you say it ... "fertile bottom land opening up " so to speak. Nice job.

really a nice way to put such thoughts. Again I will leave it in the library as I see not everyone has had a chance to read it.
