Cinder

Fans sing. Heat evaporates
to leave me cooler than before.
Rose wood frames our love song
-- chord by silent chord --
that rocks my heart, encircled by bare walls
of yearning to belong.
Forever I'll be shriveled by the flame of want;
forever I'll endure the scorch of sun.

But when I think of you
my wings unfold;
lift me to soar heights steep
where I can freely breathe again;
where waters
stumble deep.

Afrikaans version

Waaiers woer. Hitte wyk
en laat my koeler nou as vroeër.
Rooshout raam ons liefdeslied
-- noot vir stille noot --
wat my hart laat ruk, omring deur mure kaal
van wens om te behoort.
Vir ewig sal ek swig voor hart se vuur;
vir ewig sal ek son se skroei verduur.

Maar as ek aan jou dink
dan vou my vlerke oop
en vlieg ek hoër op,
daar waar ek weer vry
asemhaal;
waar watervalle loop.

  • A multi-tongued read here. It felt as I was reading, an angel, the imagery suggested that, and I enjoyed the smiles that came to mind whilst thinking. Thanks.

    If you stumble, you will end up all wet, Myra...

    We are all born incomplete so that we may have the joy of experiencing completion. We can become completed in may ways. I think you know most of them. It is hard to tell if I am a fan of your poetry or a student of your philosophy. I guess it is impossible not to be both.

    This is refreshing. I know that with all the things that are wrong with this world, I can come here and read your words and find hope and refreshment. You are cool water to the thirsty.

    Excellent.
