steel hooves oppress the dust underfoot
hollowed-out mockery of a beast of burden
bearing its similarly void-hallowed master in blood-scented silence
corpse-breath obscures the air, fly-buzzing symphonies to please
the rider's serrated ears.
burnt shells of hundred-year oaks tremble in fearful nausea
before vomiting forth a war-pack of lunatics,
monsters sanctified in moon-madness to the damp soil
painting their Mother Earth's skin with predatory tachism:
thus did She take Her taloned vengeance.
Author notes
I go back and forth between 'taloned' and 'tachism' as the base prompt for this entry. To be honest it's really both.

I found this piece to be both captivating and deep; it riveted me and sort of took me into it's fold quite unwillingly and yet I have enjoyed the ride.

Unwillingly?
It's both a direct reference and an allegorical... prediction/cynical muttering.

But seriously, what did you mean "unwillingly"? I'm curious.
