is that where it began
the line saying our lives alone
had come to an end
In sickness and in health
who could have possibly known
all the heartache we'd receive
for the life we had sown
A boy of fourteen
so charming and sweet
I wanted to hit you
the first time we did meet
you thought you were tough
thought you were cool
tried to act fly and debonair
but you were really a fool
you lied about your age
and a habit you'd never break
but the love I held for you
was never for pity's sake
you fought your demons
and I wiped your tears
I gave you love
and you caused my fears
but oh how we partied
and danced many nights
oh how we made up
after those horrible fights
and I was called different kinds of crazy
for sticking by your side
but I couldn't give up on you
it was a matter of pride
my heart had melded to yours
til death do us part
saying it now
it seems a simple start
two children, much drama
and immense amounts of pain
yet with out you here now
I seem to have gone insane
you were my opposite, my balance
you were my life
and I stand here mourning you
your widowed wife
twenty-five years
until death did we part
this love will never end
because you took my heart

Author notes
This is the story of my mother and my father from what I think my mother's perspective would be. Growing up my mother used to say she never kicked my father out because she took a vow before God and she would not be the one to break it. if my father broke it that was on him and she wouldn't let him back but she would never break her vow. She never did. They knew each other 37 years (since she was fourteen) and were married 25 before he died. They had two children and lived one crazy ass life. 2/3 of which I still don't know about. She told me and my sister once when we were teenagers that it had been years since she had been in love with my father but she loved him completely. She took care of him until his last breath and beyond and the pain on her face when we watched him die is one I will never forget.
Their story, for all the twisted things that happened in between, is the story I think of when I think of love. Unconditional love. That which exists beyond, "in love."
[The title of this poem comes from the words at the bottom of my father's head stone.]

Hmm, good piece and I agree with the title entirely because it's like you'll say that you don't want any particular person..but then you'll fall for someone in that category like your mom did. Excellent write, thanks for sharing. -
Yeah, the author's comments helped me to appreciate it better. It is well written, and I bet your mother would be proud to read it. Great job, and good luck in the contest.
take care

wow, that doesn't sound like real life at all, but it gives hope to all of us romantics out here! the poem was very nicely done, and I enjoyed the authors comments, it made me appreciate the poem so much more, and respect your mother incredibly, great job

First off, vurry nieece poem. A lot of emotion seems to come out of the words, and the way you wrote them down.
1 minor complaint, hear is here. "...Stand hear mourning you..."
Other than that, wonderful piece.
