What dreams are held in the youth’s mental cushions,
those carpets of flight taken by frail and tender wings?
They grow into a condor’s spreading soar,
only hard at times to remember it
when all one sees
are the wrinkling sheets of innocent’s groping,
marred by the stains from discovery’s accidents.
Challenge to visualize a giant or legend
sleeping inside a form in fetal position.
To gaze at the seedling so consumed in simplicity
body still a slave to maturity’s refining progress
and appreciate even an oak was once so small,
is to listen and watch with recognition
tomorrow has crowns to share
only we can’t imagine them on a crumpled blanket.
Life is a soil where each heart has its own summer,
how easy it is to fail to recognize
where that season will shine
in the person who presently
can’t restrain kidneys from telltale stains.
Wherein the ears that can detect
a hero’s theme song amid a whimper
serves as inspiration
for washing sheets of the soul
in more love than criticism.

You are such an awesome poet. Another beauty right here.
-
"the wrinkling sheets" - vivid and unusual image. Seedlings and stains are also good.

Aww I love this. It's so true and so beautiful. I am sure many parents see future leaders in their children

Best wishes in this contest.

I thought this quite clever and did enjoy it greatly. This was definitely a good addition to this contest, but I must ask you to place your author name in your author notes. I don't mean to be picky, but I love this piece and would love to keep it in the contest.
