It’s arduous
breaking ritual,
or rousing one’s mind
to possibilities -
possibly disappointing
to those that shared
my shopping cart
and kept warm
in the underbrush
while chilly winds
blew about town.
but money talks -
so I’m walking
Springtime is about change
please wait while I shower ...

I got to know "starting over" on a first name basis. After some awfully akward moments I learned "self pity" and "tabula rasa" are mortal enemies. It always helps to have friends who can help share the burden of loneliness in verse. Good luck in the contest.
Sincerely,
Leo Long

You have ventured beyond your poetic "comfort zone" with this, Joy - and very successfully, I might add!
Excellent contemporary free verse and the content is life-affirming with its advocation of the possibility of change.
I'm impressed.

Outstanding title, thank you for the translation in your AN. First stanza has a heaviness captured by your word choices, "arduous", "ritual", and "rousing one's mind." All difficult things to overcome.
Outstanding "Springtime is about change." Followed softly by a spring shower...

i liked it alot.... it is difficult to break out of old habits.... (i'm taking that is what the "old rituals" means)

You stepped outside of the brown bag alright with this piece And if i may say did a grand job of doing so. How does one limit their work to a given number of words And still make it enjoyable I don't know but you have managed it Well done good luck in the contest
