The Lonely Mile

so many times
you've walked that lonely mile
Ever so late to home
Tired and exhausted
You worked your life away
Following golden promises
Of hard work every day...

But still you walk
that lonely and sadder mile
Where are things so promised
Where is the success you crave
You're so tired of all the abuse
You boss he never says thank-you
But you keep on hoping each day

so ever find you
In this dark and lonely lane
Mortgage keeps gaining interest
You family hardly sees you
Your wife feels she has lost her love
The children wish they saw you
But you were too late again they say

Here you are again
Walking a lonely dark lane
Suddenly you stop and grab your chest
What the hell is this damn pain
Sad dark lonely figure falls silently to the ground
Next day a jogger reports a body found
All attended your funeral...throw roses on your grave
Never had a real life for they took and you only gave

  • This is good. It reminds me of a true story. When the lottery first came to New Orleans, my neighbors were some of the first to win the 2 million. The husband worked for the water company diggin ditches. Two weeks after winning the lottery he had a heart attack in a ditch and died. I know 2million doesn't last forever especially after taxes but, I tell you it would have been enough to seek less backbreaking work or at least take a vacation.
