A flick of the wrist
A twitch of your fingers
A simple gesture for you
Everything to me
You hold me in a constant state of amazement
Dazed with awe
You, only you, have the power
to crush my dreams,
raise my spirits, and
as I discovered last night,
send me into a suspended state of agony
in which my heart stops cold and races simultaneously,
where I feel nothing but the cripling pain that courses through me,
numbing me,
at the sight of you,
seemingly lifeless,
surrounded by panicked doctors.
My life stops
The world buzzes around me
unnoticed
and I am helpless,
my eyes unable to be drawn away
from the arresting sight before me.
As they wheel you away
Covered in blankets,
black, as they would use for a corpse,
a brace on your neck
your eyes unwilling to open for me
your feet, as if detached from your body,
bobbing along in rhythm
with the steps of those who support you,
the blankets twitch slightly,
and from beneath them
appears your hand.
The air, like the water from a just-opened dam,
races from my chest in an epic rush,
as my body, which, a second ago,
was dying with you,
regains life,
and you coolly slacken, so very lightly,
the ever-present grip you have on my soul,
releasing me from my agony.
A flick of the wrist
A twitch of your fingers
A simple gesture for you
Everything to me

Great write! I'm not a hockey fan but I hope he's okay.
