Dé Danann

Leprechauns were pondering

Over a mug of whiskey

They had stopped their wandering

And they were feeling frisky

Irish men were curious

Hearing the strangest whistle

The Leprechauns were furious

Catching them in the thistle

The men were so persistent

And joined them in their folly

Their pleas were so insistent

They all got drunk, by golly!

This seems a strange reunion

The Leprechauns all agreed

They frolicked in communion

Drinking a barrel of mead

It's a great poem to reread right after St. Patrick's day, which, as you know, is a huge thing in Chicago. These delicate Celtic forms remind me so of the beautiful rhythmic complexities of Celtic dance. This one is just plain old wonderful fun and a delight to read and reread.

ahh the Irish!! I knew an Irish lassie or two in my day. They both went off to Religious Orders and for me they would pray. Now what I have said is true. I liked yourpoem lots and laughed and drank a toast to you. * rose* Papagallo

Perfect form for a perfect poem with "St. Paddy's Day" right around the corner... And couldn't we all stand a little joy-juice and community and a lot less worry these days..??? Perfect as usual!!!

    A little splash of whiskey
will make them all play free
And then we'll see them in the light
    where they should really be...

    This is something else!

I was shown the form a while ago and ducked it, now you have shown how well it can work in English I must try. You have penned fun into every line, just right for a celebration of "the little people"

Great stuff in so many ways

    Jeff

I am so flattered especially after reading this on your author page:
“I have been asked why I rarely comment on poems
I personally feel there is little use in commenting unless I can offer valuable critical comments
I will not be commenting simply to gush over a poem or author
      [unless it is brilliant] ”
      Thank you!

A fine Irish Drinkin' song if ever there was one, just needs the tin whistle and the bangin' of the drum.
